Fresh Ink is a new theatre festival designed to support writers from Hull to create and develop new plays in the city.

Inspired by “scratch” theatre nights, the focus will be on performing early versions of new ideas to audiences and gathering feedback to support the next stages of their development.

Featuring:

🟢 Six rehearsed readings of brand-new plays by writers from Hull, especially commissioned for the festival

🟡 Workshops from the Writers’ Guild of Great Britain, Travis Alabanza, Olivier Award-winner Amy Trigg, BAFTA-nominee Yolanda Mercy, Alan Lane and All We Ever Wanted Was Everything writer, Luke Barnes

🔵 Free industry talks on PR and marketing for writers, getting an agent, commissioning local work and making a writing career in Hull

🔴 A keynote address on the state of new writing, by artistic director of the Royal Court, David Byrne

🟡 A first look at Middle Child’s 2025 production by Sid Sagar, with an excerpt from his new play that asks big questions about race, class and privilege

🟢 Sharings of work from the Middle Child Writers’ Group and workshops on how to read a play, all accompanied by a free meal
